Here is a thread for notes on Using the Forum,  Zoom settings, Zoom Practice notes for Mac, Ipad, PC.  SPEAKER VIEW / GALLERY VIEW  

  1. Someone noted that those who are not speaking mute our audios - so that the 'speakers' can be heard better AND also so that our gestures do not interfere with the 'speakers' process.
  2. When someone moves and the visibility setting is on 'Speaker View', the 'speaker' is on the large screen all by himself or herself - this is the preferred view for the host while working with someone. The rest of us may wish to be on gallery view (where we see everyone) or speaker view (where we see the 'speaker' on the large portion of the window). 

SOUND

  1. Those who have a PC may help with finding the sound settings on a PC
  2. Edwina has been editing the recordings to eliminate the extra peaks of sound.

One very useful video is #6 How to Access Video and Audio Settings – 3.5 minutes
This video shows how to open the Settings window and demonstrates what the Video and Audio settings do. The video was made using the Windows view of Zoom's settings, but the Mac view of the Settings is basically the same, with some things located a bit differently

Notes on playing recordings from Dropbox

Some of you found that the recording link "works but it keeps stopping after a few minutes",
and then "If I download it to my computer it works just fine".

It turns out that Dropbox only streams the first 15 minutes of a video file.
Dropbox will stream audio files completely.

You can download an entire file and then watch later if you wish.   
There is a Download button at the top of the Dropbox window.

A suggestion is to download the file to your computer. 

You can then play it on your favourite mp4 player. If you are a pc person, window media player will work. 

Here is a screenshot of where to find the download option.

playing recordings with iTunes

Download option worked very well on some Macs as well. 

"I have been playing it with iTunes with no problem. (It was very simple: after i tapped the DOWNLOAD button, the computer suggested iTunes and I just tapped whatever button looked like "Yes, please" and it started playing.)"

Zoom has local telephone numbers in various countries ((here is the full url for international numbers https://zoom.us/zoomconference?m=UVpt2EH4Gx6cGXYKg-UT-iyJEA3OonsB) that can be used to avoid or reduce long-distance charges. The long-distance charges will depend on the telephone provider in the country where you are staying, so contact them for the cost. If you are staying in a hotel, also check with them for their charges.

 

DOWNLOADING RECORDINGS

Using the memory stick is a good idea, since the audio files are less than 100MB. Some people prefer to leave them in their Dropbox and play them directly from Dropbox, provided the internet connection speed is adequate. Otherwise it will be necessary to download the file and play it with an audio app.
